Objective:  Experience the joy of the Lord which comes from spending time in His presence.
Start your homeschool day with prayer and Bible reading. Our virtue this month is Initiative.

Math

Objectives:
1. Solve word problems involving fractions.
2. Write mixed numbers, add and subtract fractions to whole numbers
3. Find mixed numbers on a number line
4. Understand the relationship between improper fractions and mixed numbers

Start with 5 min of addition practice using Facts Practice-G or H (multiplication).

Please complete all the work assigned for home days, including workbook and practice exercises, as well as math facts practice. Please grade all work by first indicating which answers are incorrect and then giving your student an opportunity to correct his/her mistakes before offering assistance.

Reading  
Objectives:
1. Learn about the development of the Ferris Wheel displayed at the Chicago World's Fair.
2. Engage in discussion, sharing ideas, meaning, & information from the reading.

Spelling
Objective: Analyze two ways to spell the sound of /shun/


Writing
Objectives:
1. Write a three point paragraph from a prompt.
2. Write a polished final draft of a three paragraph narrative story.
3. Recite Poem 1 from memory.


Grammar
Objectives:
1. Identify subject pronouns in sentences
2. Correctly use subject pronouns in an original sentence.
3. Identify possessive noun pronouns in sentences
4. Correctly use possessive noun pronouns in an original sentence.

Latin
1. Learn the First-Declension Noun Endings
2. Learn ten new Latin vocabulary words
3. Memorize the case names of the First Declension noun chart
History
Objectives: 
1. Identify characteristics of Impressionist artists including Monet, Renoir, Degas & Cassatt
2. Know that present day Indonesia, formerly called The Dutch East Indies, was desired by the Dutch for wealth building.
3. Know that the Krakatoa volcano erupted in Indonesia in 1883.
4. Know that the Russian Czar Nicholas called the Ottoman Empire "The Sick Man of Europe" and fought against it.


Science
Objectives:
1. Review facts about order Lepidoptera
2. Learn about ways to attract butterflies to your yard
2. Identify characteristics of praying mantises and dragonflies
3. Continue to collect, study, and identify Texas insects.

Continue to add to your insect collection. You will need to have 10 different insects, all labeled with the Order,
name of insect, date, and location.

Poetry:  Our first quarter poem is "The Father's Vineyard".  Additional copies here.
