*Note: This week students will learn to visualize 2-D representations of simple solids made out of unit cubes.
This is a precursor to the next part where they will learn that volume is the amount of space a solid occupies
and is measured in cubic units.

You will need Multi-link cubes at home. If you don't have any, let me know and I'll send some home for you to borrow.
Objectives:
1. Review previously learned concepts.
2. Interpret two-dimensional drawings of unit cubes
3. Determine the number of cubes used to make a solid.
4. Build solids from models drawn on isometric dot paper.
5. Visualize new solids formed by adding or removing cubes.

Spelling
Objective: Learn to spell words containing the sound of /u/ spelled ou.

Grammar
Objectives:
1 Know common reasons to write a business letter.
2. Write a properly formatted business letter.
3. Address an envelope and mail letter.

Note: Students will learn four types of business letters and write to a company of their choice.  They will often receive back a reply, which can be exciting. Bring the properly formatted letter, along with an addressed envelope to school on Monday, April 8th. After they are checked, we will mail them!

Composition  
1. Write a RD for a five paragraph report including a topic sentence, facts, clincher sentence and dress-ups.
2. Write a conclusion paragraph for a biography report.

Reading
Objectives:
1.Spend 30-45 min of independent reading per day
2. Engage in meaningful discussion over assigned text.

Latin
Objectives:
1. Review previously learned vocabulary and grammar.


Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.

1. Create three KWO's containing interesting facts about a scientist 
2. Write an introductory paragraph for a biography.

Week of 3/18: Students read a short biography book of a scientist such as Who Was Thomas Alva Edison? by Margaret Frith
Here are a few scientists from which to choose. There are many others.
·         Isaac Newton—founded the laws of gravity and motion
·         Thomas Edison—American inventor
·         Albert Einstein—E=mc², plus many other theories
·         Niels Bohr—applied quantum theory of physics to the structure of the atom
·         William Gilbert—English physicist who founded the study of magnetism
·         Lord Kelvin (William Thomson)—established the absolute temperature scale
Week of 3/25 Students complete reading, and begin answering the following questions on a questionnaire:
·         Who was the scientist you read about?
·         When and where were they born?
·         What was their major scientific contribution?
·         List the events that surrounded their discovery
·         List some other interesting events in the scientist’s life.


Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.

Students will learn to write one paragraph from a prompt. This is accomplished by asking themselves questions, answering them in a KWO,and using the outline to write a paragraph complete with topic sentence, dress-ups and a final clincher.
