Math
Continue working on memorizing multiplication/division facts until mastered.  Start each day with a Facts Practice warm-up using the math facts sheets sent home.


Objectives:

1. Express fractions that are greater than 1 as improper fractions and mixed numbers.

2. Express improper fractions as mixed numbers.

3. Convert mixed numbers to improper fractions.

4. Understand fractions as division.

Note: Monday, 10/24/2022 is a catch-up day. Review areas that your student still struggles with. Complete any unfinished WB pages if your student needs more practice to reinforce and solidify understanding.


Spelling
Objective: Spell words with or in an unaccented syllable


Reading  

We are continuing Misty of Chincoteague this week.

Review each chapter's vocabulary prior to reading and complete the assigned questions in your journal.

Objectives: 

1. Increase reading comprehension and fluency.

2. Learn new vocabulary.

3. Engage in meaningful discussion.

4. Summarize a passage through oral and written narration.

Writing

Objectives:

1. Write the second paragraph RD (Conflict/problem) of Damon & Pythias myth
2. Write third paragraph RD (climax/resolution) of Damon & Pythias myth
3. Incorporate dress-ups (ly, who/which, strong verb, because clause) and vocabulary words

Grammar

Objectives:
1. Recognize and use helping verbs in sentences.
2. Know that "not" is usually an adverb.
3. Use irregular verbs correctly in various tense forms.

History  

Objectives: 
1. Know that Pedro II made the slave trade illegal, freed slaves, and finally made slavery illegal in Brazil.
2. Learn about creatures living in the Pantanal area of Brazil.
3. Know that Alexander II and Alexander III were unpopular Russian Czars with unlimited power.

Science
1. Identify characteristics of ants and other social insects.
2. Identify and label insect orders and common names.

Poetry:  Our second quarter poem is "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening".  Additional copies here.
Geography:  We will have our test over Southern Europe this week. The song and map can be found here on the main blog curricula/geography page. Students will be responsible for labeling countries on a map. A word bank is provided.
