Writing

*Note: We will be using the writing prompt from the IEW writing contest for students. (See https://iew.com/iew-writing-contest-2021 for details.) Participation in the contest is voluntary, however, I do hope all students will enter! Regardless if they do or not, this is the prompt we will use for our Unit 7 Inventive Writing piece. In this new unit students do not have a source text or even pictures to look at. The KWO is formed by asking yourself questions. Key words for the outline are found in the answer to the questions. This is a skill that takes time to perfect, so you may need to ask clarifying questions during the brainstorming process.

Objectives:

1. To be introduced to the Unit 7 Inventive Writing structural model
2. To create a KWO from a writing prompt
3. To write a 2-paragraph composition about the prompt
4. To correctly incorporate dress-ups and sentence openers

History

Objectives:

1. Share Vietnam Era memories from interviews of people living during the Vietnam War.
2. Identify problems associated with Communism in the Soviet Union.
3. Identify why it was easy for the Soviet Union to invade Czechoslovakia.
4. Identify why it was difficult for the Soviet Union to invade Afghanistan.
5. Learn about the life and ministry of Billy Graham

Science

1. Know the stages of bird development from embryo to adult
2. Observe a growing chick embryo through candling
