Start your homeschool day with prayer and Bible reading. Our virtue this month is Cooperation. Character Council has some great resources to help develop this character trait in your child.


Math

Here are some fun Optional Math Games and math videos to practice math skills learned this year.

Objectives:

1. Investigate the lengths of the edges and the dimensions of the faces of cuboids.

2. Construct cubes and cuboids using a net.

Spelling

Objectives:

1. Analyze six ways to spell the sound of /er/.

*Please give Phonogram Assessments 4 & 5 the week of May 3rd. Here are instructions for administering the assessment.

Phonogram Drill Form (written portion) - Parents, read the sound or sounds on the card. Or if you prefer, you can play the sound on the AAS app.  Your student should then write the corresponding phonogram in the box. Mark any your child missed.
Classical Phonics Assessment Tracker (oral portion) - Show the card to the student. He or she should be able to correctly identify all the sounds associated with that card. Please note any phonograms your child missed on the form.


Reading  

Please bring your book to class each day.

Objectives:

1. Know that from 1948-1994 apartheid made racial discrimination and segregation legal in South Africa.
2. Know that Nelson Mandela was elected the first black president of South Africa in 1994.
3. Know that the US was attacked by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001

Science
Objectives:
1. Identify shore birds
2. Know characteristics of ducks and geese

Students will be making a field guide of Texas birds using pictures from the Texas Parks & Wildlife publication.  For coloring accuracy, search birds here:  https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/


Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.

Poetry:  Our  fourth quarter poem is 'The Dentist and the Crocodile". Additional copies here.

Geography:  We are continuing our study of Scandinavia this week.  The song and map can be found here on the main blog curricula/geography page. Students will be responsible for labeling countries on a map. A word bank is provided.

History: We are continuing our memorization of the US Presidents. There are several YouTube video songs to help

with this. Here are two: US Presidents to "America" and US PresidentsFor assessment, students will write or sing all the presidents' first and last names. Due 5/5/21
