Start your homeschool day with prayer and Bible reading. Our virtue this month is Cooperation. Character Council has some great resources to help develop this character trait in your child.


Math

Objectives:

1. Recognize perpendicular lines in figures and verify that they intersect at right angles

2. Recognize parallel lines in figures and verify that they are parallel by determining if they are both perpendicular to a third line

3. Draw perpendicular and parallel lines

4. Classify quadrilaterals based on the number of parallel sides

5. Identify lines of symmetry in figures


Spelling

Objectives:

1. Spell words containing the sound of /u/ spelled ou.


Reading  

Please bring your book to class each day.

Objectives: 

1. Practice reading fluency and comprehension skills

2. Compare and contrast characters.

3. Identify similes in literature

4. Learn new vocabulary


Grammar
Objectives:
1. Know common reasons to write a business letter.
2. Write a properly formatted business letter.
3. Address an envelope and mail letter.
Note: Students will learn four types of business letters and write to a company of their choice. Companies will often receive back a reply, which can be exciting. Bring the properly formatted letter, along with an addressed envelope to school on Thursday. After they are checked, we will mail them!

Writing 

*Note: We will be using the writing prompt from the IEW writing contest for students. (See https://iew.com/iew-writing-contest-2021 for details.) Participation in the contest is voluntary, however, I do encourage all students to enter!

Objectives:

1. To write a 2-paragraph composition from a writing prompt.
2. To correctly incorporate dress-ups and sentence openers.
3. Proofread and edit your work.

Objectives:
1. Know that Raptors are birds of prey that use their strong feet, talons and hooked beaks to catch and kill their prey.
2. Look at owl behavior
3. Dissect an owl pellet 
4. Research bird of choice and present findings to classmates

Students will be making a field guide of Texas birds using pictures from the Texas Parks & Wildlife publication.  For coloring accuracy, search birds here:  https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/


Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.

Poetry:  Our  fourth quarter poem is 'The Dentist and the Crocodile". Additional copies here.

Geography:  We are continuing our study of Scandinavia this week.  The song and map can be found here on the main blog curricula/geography page. Students will be responsible for labeling countries on a map. A word bank is provided.

History: We are continuing our memorization of the US Presidents. There are several YouTube video songs to help

with this. Here are two: US Presidents to "America" and US PresidentsFor assessment, students will write or sing all the presidents' first and last names. Due 5/5/21
