Math:   Continue doing a 5 min warm-up with a Math fact sheet of your choice and 5 min of Mental Math.   Work through MM 14 this week.  This week we will:
  • Divide decimal numbers by adding decimal places when there is a remainder
  • Estimate the quotient for division of decimals
  • Round the quotient to one decimal place
  • Solve word problems involving the division of decimals
  • Practice and review previously learned skills
Composition:
  • Complete a polished report using two sources, complete with topic sentence, clincher, vocabulary words, and dress-ups. 
  • Utilize public speaking skills to present three-paragraph story to class
Reading: Students should be reading a minimum of 40 minutes per day.  After each chapter students should narrate the passage to parents. Parents should then ask questions about the meaning of the passage and engage in Socratic discussion with their student.

Grammar: Students will learn four types of business letters and write to a company of their choice.  They will often receive back a reply, which can be exciting.

Spelling: Learn to spell words with ar in an unaccented syllable.

Latin:Listen to Latin chants daily to aid in memorization.

History: 
  • Explore the role the Cold War had on space exploration and watch a clip of the first moonwalk.
  •  Share information from Vietnam War era interviews
  •  Continue memorizing the history timeline song.
On Wednesday we will be sharing information and stories gathered from student's interviews with people living during the Vietnam War. If your student has arranged to interview someone over the break, they may turn in a note stating who they plan to interview on Wed., and bring the completed report to school Monday after Spring Break.

Science:   Students are making functioning piece of furniture out of newspaper.  In addition to learning to work together cooperatively, they have to consider balance, support, and weight when designing a stool.

Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.
