Wednesday, Jan 31 - Pizza Day!
Discipleship:
Objective:  Experience the joy of the Lord which comes from spending time in His presence.  Start your homeschool day with prayer and Bible reading.  Our Character Virtue of the month is Self-Discipline.
Math:
We'll dive into decimals this week as we begin Singapore 4B.   There's no mental math this week, so this is a good time to make sure your student's math facts are solid, as we'll be moving into adding/subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimal numbers soon.
Continue doing a 5 min warm-up with the assigned Math fact sheet.  If your child has mastered the current fact sheet, move on the next one.
Objectives:
1. Read and write 1-place decimal numbers less than and greater than 1.
2. Locate decimal numbers on a number line.
3. Express a decimal number as a mixed number in simplest form.
4. Learn some common decimal to fraction conversions.
5. Interpret 1-place decimal numbers in terms of tens, one, and tenths.
Please complete all the work assigned for home days, including workbook and practice exercises, as well as math facts practice. Please grade all work by first indicating which answers are incorrect and then giving your student an opportunity to correct his/her mistakes before offering assistance
Composition:
Objectives:
1. Take notes from facts.
2. Write a topic sentence.
3. Limit details by choosing only interesting facts.
4. Write a final clincher which repeats or reflects key words from the topic sentence.
Reading: We will begin reading The House of Sixty Fathers this week. Please bring your book to class each day.
Grammar
Objectives:
1.Identify antecedents and use correct pronoun agreement in sentences.
2. Review compound sentence punctuation.
Spelling
Objective: Begin the Make it Plural Book and review four patterns for making words plural.
**Bring your Make It Plural Book to school on Wed.  If you don’t have a copy, please email and I will make you a copy.

Please administer the Classical Phonics Assessment this week if you didn’t do it before the break and return to school Wednesday.  You only need to do Assessment 2 at this point. Here are instructions for administering the assessment.
Phonogram Drill Form (written portion) - Parents, read the sound or sounds on the card. Or if you prefer, you can play the sound on the AAS app.  Your student should then write the corresponding phonogram in the box. Mark any your child missed.
Classical Phonics Assessment Tracker (oral portion) - Show the card to the student. He or she should be able to correctly identify all the sounds associated with that card. Please note any phonograms your child missed on the form.
Latin:
Listen to Latin chants daily to aid in memorization.
Chapter 4
Chapter 11
History
Objectives:
1. Know that for 1000 years the Jewish people had not had a homeland.
2. Know that Israel was proclaimed a state in 1948.
3. Understand why control of Israel/Palestine remain a heated issue today.
Science
Experiment: Can sound travel through a liquid?
Click together two stones, two blocks, or two pot lids.  Listen to the sound. Then submerge them in a basin of water or bathtub, and listen to the sound they make under water.  Record your results.
Experiment:  Can sound travel through a solid?
Hold one end of a 12-inch ruler 1 inch from your ear and scratch on the far end of the ruler.  Note how loud the sound is.  Then move the ruler 13 inches away from your ear and scratch on the near end, so that you are making noise at the same distance from your ear as before.  Compare the sound you hear and record your results.
Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.
We are continuing our memorization of the US Presidents.  For assessment, students will write all the presidents' first and last names.  Due 2/21/18.  If you'd like to make flashcards, here are some president picture memory cards.
