Discipleship
Start your home school day with prayer and Bible reading.  Continue review Proverbs 3:1-13. Our Character Virtue of the month is Self-Control.  What is self-control? How did Jesus demonstrate this virtue to us?

Math:
We'll dive into decimals this week as we begin Singapore 4B.   There's no mental math this week, so the is a good time to make sure your student's math facts are solid, as we'll be moving into adding/subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimal numbers soon.

Math Facts: Start each day with a 5 min warm up using the  Math Facts Practice sheets.  Please continue doing facts practice sheets daily at home until all facts are completely mastered.

Workbook Exercises: Please check these daily and have students make corrections.
Math Buddies: We encourage you to regularly use this web site to help you better understand how to teach a lesson and to provide opportunities for your child to practice new skills or review previously learned concepts that they may need extra practice with
Math Buddies login page
Optional Math Buddies: Decimals - Tenths and Hundredths

Reading
We will read and discuss The Wright Brothers, so please bring your book to class each day.  Write and score one reading narration, and return to school on Monday.
Composition
We're practicing the important skills of how to limit details and organize a cohesive paragraph complete with a topic sentence and a final clincher.  Students will be reading a source text and create an outline by choosing facts which interest them.
Spelling
On Wednesday, students will begin the Make It Plural Book and review four patterns for making words plural.  Have them bring their book to class.  If you do not have a copy of the book, let me know and I'll make your student a copy.

History
Students who are due to create a timeline figure are listed in red in the above table after the lesson number. The following class day, they will show the class the figure, tell  2-3 important points about the lesson, and place their figure on the classroom timeline.

Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work.

Geography:  This week we introduce Mexico.   The song for Mexico covers seven states, but the map your child received covers all the states in Mexico.  There is no song for this map. Fourth graders will be responsible for memorizing the states that border the USA, the state that includes the capital city, and those states on the Yucatan Peninsula, a frequently-visited area of Mexico that is considered to be part of the Caribbean. These are the states they will need to know for the test on January 25:
  1. Baja California Norte
  2. Baja California Sur
  3. Sonora
  4. Chihuahua
  5. Coahuila
  6. Nuevo Leon
  7. Tamaulipas
  8. Distrito Federal
  9. Campeche
  10. Yucatan
  11. Quintana Roo
All maps and songs can be found here.
