Objective: 
Experience the joy of the Lord which comes from spending time in His presence. Start your homeschool day with prayer and Bible reading. Our virtue this month is Faith. Faith is the rational assent to and unwavering belief in God and his revealed Truth.

Math

Note: Start each day with a facts practice warm-up sheet. Do whichever page your child is currently working on or needs help for memorization. Set the timer for 5 minutes. Optional: Fill in ones you didn't get and return to school for an extra credit participation grade. (Two sheets due per week for extra credit.)


Objectives:

1. Add, subtract, and multiply metric units of measurement

2. Express inches, feet, yards, and miles in compound units and single units.

3. Express ounces and pounds in compound units and single units.

4. Express gallons, quarts, pints, cups, and ounces in compound units and single units.

5. Express measurements of time in compound units and single units.

6. Multiply time expressed in compound units.


Spelling

Objective: Review four patterns for making words plural.


Reading  

Please bring your book to class each day.

Objectives: 

1. Engage in meaningful Socratic dialogue.
2. Summarize a passage. 
3. Identify virtues in characters in Number the Stars.

4. Identify personification in a passage. 

5. Make predictions concerning the plot.


Grammar

Objective:

1. Know that Personal Pronouns and Antecedents must agree in number and gender.
2. Write a limerick.

Writing 

Objectives:

1. Write a story consisting of 3 paragraphs that describe what is happening in a series of pictures.
2. Practice the Writing from Pictures structure: Central Fact, Details, and Clincher for each paragraph.
3. Use stylistic techniques of incorporating 6 dress-ups into each paragraph.

History 

Objectives: 

1. Know that world leaders met in Versailles and formed the League of Nations in an attempt to ensure peace after WWI. 
2. Know that Mohandas Gandhi promoted nonviolent resistance to British rule in India.
3. Know that under Joseph Stalin, Russia became the USSR and millions of Russians died. 

Science

1. Experiment with air.
2. Experiment with air pressure.

3. Know that the shape of bird wings gives them the ability to lift off the ground. 

4. Correctly and neatly color birds in order to make a field guide.


Memory Work:  Please spend 15 minutes per day working on the following memory work:

Poetry:  Our third quarter poem is "In Christ Alone." These lyrics are set to music and you can find numerous renditions online. Here is one. In Christ Alone. Additional copies here.

Geography:  We are continuing our study of Eastern Europe this week. The song and map can be found here on the main blog curricula/geography page. Students will be responsible for labeling countries on a map. A word bank is provided. Sheppard's software practice game: Eastern Europe

History: We are beginning our memorization of the US Presidents. There are several YouTube video songs to help

with this. Here are two: US Presidents to "America" and US PresidentsFor assessment, students will write or sing all the presidents' first and last names. (Due 5/12)
